The lowdown

Beyond Meat says its burger is designed to look, cook and satisfy like beef, using pea and rice protein with a touch of beetroot for colour. It's sold chilled in packs of two and turned up at every major supermarket we checked. Cook it hard and fast like a beef patty and serve it in a toasted bun.

How to cook it

Pan-fry in a tablespoon of oil over a medium-high heat for at least 9 minutes, barbecue at 240–250°C for about 10 minutes, or air-fry at 180°C for 12 minutes (brand guidance). Do not microwave.

Always follow the instructions on your pack and make sure it's piping hot before serving.
